Does your one voice count? Do you make a difference?
I've been thinking about this question a lot lately. One trigger is that every time I get in the car, EVERY TIME, I end up behind someone who thinks it's ok to throw their used lit cigarettes out of their car window.
It's just one cigarette butt. What difference does it make?
What difference does one butt make? What about ten? Or a thousand? At what point does it matter?
Would these same people throw their butts around their house?
What about recycling? I've heard folks say it doesn't matter.
What difference could I make? I'm just one person.
Does one person recycling make a difference? I don't know, but I think it is important to share, so I recycle.
Does your one vote matter?
Every voting season, we hear all the stories about close elections and how 'one vote' can swing things.
Does your one voice make a difference?
I recently saw some posts about the Kent State massacre (May 4, 1970). Did the four murdered students make a difference?
I live in a state where virtually every public official from the governor down espouse beliefs in direct opposition to what I believe. Does it make any difference to write/phone/email them when I believe they should support me?
Probably not, but I fear my silence would say more.
What about you? Does your voice matter?
